Looking At or Looking Out: Exploring Monocular Cues to Cre ate a See-Through Experience with a Virtual Window
نویسندگان
چکیده
In indoor environments, having a view from a window plays an important role in human physical and psychological well-being – particularly if the view contains natural elements. In places where physical windows are absent or the view is highly artifact-dominated, virtual windows can potentially play a beneficial role. The current paper presents a research experiment on the efficacy of three monocular depth cues, i.e., motion parallax, blur, and occlusion, in engendering a window-like 'see-through experience' using projected photorealistic scenes. Results indicate that all three cues have a significant main effect on the viewer's 'seethrough experience', with motion parallax yielding the greatest effect size. These results provide a first step in identifying and testing the perceptual elements that are essential in creating a convincing virtual window.

The Civil Responsibility of Government in the Cyberspace: Looking at the Cyber Ethics
Background: Given the appropriateness of cyberspace and its interconnectedness, each country is expected to minimize the possibility of harmful actions by securing and continuously monitoring the Internet and the virtual world. Of course, part of this goal will be achieved through the adoption of appropriate national laws and, in part, through proper education of citizens and the development of...
متن کاملAssessing the Iranian Fiscal Sustainability in Past and Future through Tax Side of the Economy
This paper, I have focused on the tax side of the fiscal policy to investigate the past and future behavior of fiscal sustainability in Iran. To do so, I have employed two different forward-looking and backward-looking approaches. First, the backward-looking approach is the fiscal policy rule proposed by Daving & Leeper (2011). Precisely, this rule determines that whether the fiscal policy is ...

Olfactory research in immersive virtual environments (IVEs) have often examined the addition of scent as part of the environment or atmosphere that act as experimental stimuli. There appears to be a lack of research on the influence of virtual foods in IVEs on human satiation. Studies based on situational cues or self-perception theory provide support for the hypothesis that touching and smelli...
متن کاملThe Role of Mental Contiguity in Memory: Registration and Retrieval Effects
Implicit contiguity of related items whose list presentations are physically disparate results from the subject looking back through memory so as to bring the items together in mental experience. Effects of implicit contiguity were examined in three experiments by controlling looking-back behavior during list presentation and varying the separation of target items and related items that were la...
متن کاملCommunication Strategies Revisited: Looking beyond Interactional and Psycholinguistic Perspectives
Second language (L2) communication strategies (CSs) have traditionally been dealt with through either interactional or psychological perspectives. However, this paper is a critical attempt to question the status of the particular kinds of psycholinguistic and interactional approaches that currently dominate the field of second language acquisition (SLA). In this way, it expands the significance...
